Notes: Written for [livejournal.com profile] meghan_84, as a result of a Guess the Fic meme. I’m not going to tell her prompt, since it gives away a spoiler from 413. Also, I've taken massive liberties with just about everything in this fic, so please don't let the facts get in the way of the story. :)

Julie stood in the cramped waiting area, which smelled like sweat and bleach. She wrapped her sweater around her more tightly and wondered if she was doing the right thing. Maybe she should just leave. She sighed and blamed her stupid car and Billy Riggins for the fact that she was standing in the last place on earth she’d ever expected to be.

Matt dropped a few more shirts into the small blue suitcase that Aubrey had lent him. It had wheels and a telescoping handle, and she assured him that it would fit in the overhead bin. His stomach was churning and he felt like he had when he first stepped in for Jason Street: unprepared, incapable, and generally terrified.

Author’s Note: I’m sure I’m bending all kinds of rules and fudging all sorts of canon to bring these two worlds together. Any mistakes are my own. Calendar wise, it’s July/August. Timing-wise for FNL, it’s the summer after Julie’s graduation from high school. Timing-wise for SPN, it’s some time during the middle of the first season.

Tim woke up slowly, as though he was surfacing from a great depth. The sun slanting in through the blinds made him reluctant to open his eyes. When he finally did, he blinked a few times as the room came into focus.

Dean pulled up in front of the diner and smiled when he saw Sam was sitting where he left him. The girl was gone, but judging from the way Sam was staring into the distance, Dean thought it looked like the meeting had been a success.

Chapter Three

By design, the first day of the road trip was a short one, only a few hundred miles of driving. As anxious as she was to get to the good parts of the trip, Julie didn’t want to get burned out on driving. At least Tim would share the driving responsibilities, a chore that Lois had flatly insisted that she wanted no part of.

Chapter Two

Tim pulled open the back door of Julie’s car and dropped his duffel bag in the backseat. After shutting the door, he looked up at the window, where Herc was waving and making silly faces. Tim grinned and waved goodbye, then climbed into the front seat. “Herc says if we’re going to New Orleans and Key West that we’re going to need fake IDs,” said Tim.

Chapter One

Julie was proud that she'd managed to remain relatively calm during the actual conversation. She'd limited herself to a few questions, and then stolen a neutral statement right out of the Tami Taylor playbook. Something like “Well, if that's what you feel like you have to do.”

Mid-November

Julie was driving home from the library, singing along with the radio, in very good spirits. Her parents and Gracie were gone for the weekend, visiting some second-cousin or someone in Plano. She'd used the excuse of a term paper to escape the trip, then secretly finished the paper early, so she had an empty house and nothing to do for an entire blissful weekend.

Good-bye, I'll be home by one,” shouted Julie as she walked out the front door. She heard her mother tell her to have a nice time.

Tim had no idea why Julie needed him to pick her up at the gas station out on Route 5, but he wasn't going to waste time asking a bunch of questions. He said he'd see her in 20 minutes and managed to make it there in 12.

mid-July

Julie climbed on top of the lifeguard stand, settled down with the red rescue tube in her lap and looked out over the chaos that was the Dillon Community Pool. She spotted The Swede on the other side of the pool, standing on the walkway with his hands on his hips. She noticed him smile and wink at her, but she pretended she hadn't seen him.

early-August

Tim turned on the speed, even as his shoulder complained. He couldn't help it.. He was competitive and he especially didn't want to lose to a girl. He hit the wall and looked up at Julie, who was acting as the referee.

Julie was curled up in her customary spot at the end of Tim Riggins' couch. Her sandals were on the floor, her legs were tucked up underneath her and her head was bent over her work. She smiled as she put the finishing touches on the note cards for the speech she was writing to present her final project for her Advanced Placement English class.

Three days later, Julie walked through the hallway toward the main school office in a daze. She couldn't believe that not only had Tim's warning proved prophetic, it had been an even bigger disaster than he'd warned.

Julie timed her entry into the cafeteria on Saturday so that she arrived a minute before 8am. Vice Principal Trucks was sitting at a table in the front, dressed in a short sleeved shirt with horrible sans-a-belt pants. Julie wondered if that's what his whole wardrobe was like.
