Title: The Test
Fandom: Leverage
Rating: G
Characters: Nate, Hardison, Parker, Sam.
Word Count: 1,000
Spoilers: If you know anything about the show, you're golden.
Warnings: Not really, unless you have issues surrounding swimming lessons at the Y. (Yeah, don't even get me started on my own experiences with that. :))
Disclaimer: I own nothing here and am just doing this for fun.

Notes: Written for [info]whimoffate, as a result of a Guess the Story meme. Her prompt was “swimming.”

Looking through his binoculars, Nate watches Hardison. The way the hacker is standing on the edge of the building, fidgeting uncomfortably in the tight harness, reminds Nate of Sam’s first swimming test. Hardison shakes his head, eyes wide and mouth pressed into a thin line, and this simple gesture peels back the years for Nate until he’s standing in the YMCA, breathing in humid, over-chlorinated air.

Rating: PG
Characters/Pairing: Nate, Eliot
Word Count: 917
Spoilers: Up to and including The Bottle Job (211)
Warnings: Not really.
Disclaimer: I own nothing here and am just doing this for fun.

Summary: Nate returns to his apartment after the Bottle Job, and Eliot wants to talk.

Notes: Written for a [livejournal.com profile] leverageland challenge: Write a missing scene for an episode of Leverage as suggested by [info]sheryden.

Nate stands in front of his apartment door, trying to pull his keys out of his pocket and open the door one-handed. His other hand grasps the half-full bottle of expensive Scotch that he’d bought for Doyle during the con. Cora had insisted he take it with him, he’d paid for it after all, and he was just too worn down and tired to resist.

Spoilers: Set between “The Fairy Godparents Job” (204) and “The Three Days of the Hunter Job” (205).

A/N: Written for [livejournal.com profile] lovesrogue36‘s prompt on [livejournal.com profile] leveragekink : “Nate/Sophie, paint in her hair” Coming up with the title was the hardest part and it’s based on a mistranslation loose interpretation of a line in Edith Piaf’s song “Non, je ne regrette rien,” Balayées pour toujours, je repars à zéro.

Nate knocked on Sophie’s door again, annoyed that she wasn’t answering. Their weekly meetings to select the team’s next client were a standing engagement, and Sophie was never late. Well, until recently, at least. Nate hadn’t met ‘The Boyfriend’ yet and was having a hard time working up any friendly feelings toward the guy. Sophie had been different and the only new variable was a guy whose name he didn’t even know.

Spoilers: None. Set pre-series, about two and a half years. Nate is married to Maggie.

Painting: Vincent Van Gogh, Wheatfield with Crows, 1890, Oil on canvas, 19.9 in × 40.6 in

A/N: Part four in a five-part series of one-shots focused on three of my favorite things: Nate, Sophie, and art. Although my brother has helped select the other paintings, this one was all my idea. Fifteen years ago, I had the opportunity to see this haunting painting at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, and I’ve carried it in my head ever since. That’s art.

Nate watched as the coffin was lowered into the ground. He could feel Maggie holding onto his arm, feel her tears falling on his hand. But he was numb. Beyond numb, actually, and well into shell-shocked territory.

Spoilers: None. Set pre-series, about three years. Nate is married to Maggie, Sam is unwell.

Painting: Richard Diebenkorn, Cityscape 1 (Landscape No. 1), 1963, Oil on canvas, 60 1/4 x 50 1/2 in

A/N: Part three in a five-part series of one-shots focused on three of my favorite things: Nate, Sophie, and art. Special thanks to my brother, an art school graduate, for helping me pick this painting and for supplying the excellent description of Diebenkorn’s style. Any mistakes are my own, because as the older sister, it’s my birth-right to ignore him sometimes. :)

---------------------------
Sophie’s entire dating career had been something of a nightmare, which she attributed wholly to her pitiful selection of choices. As she saw it, she could either date a fellow grifter or date an honest citizen. The pitfalls of dating a fellow grifter were obvious: trust issues, paranoia, possible law enforcement investigations, double-crosses, and difficult schedules.

A/N: Part two in a five-part series of one-shots focused on three of my favorite things: Nate, Sophie, and art. Special thanks to my brother, an art school graduate, for helping me pick this painting and for supplying all of the smart observations about it. Any mistakes are my own, because as the older sister, it’s my birth-right to ignore him sometimes. :)

Nate arrived at her room while Sophie was still getting ready. He always claimed that he was just punctual, but she thought he had it confused with “obsessively early.” She crossed the small hotel room in three long strides and opened the door.

Nate walked through the corridors of the museum administration building, greeting the familiar faces and commiserating with them over the broken air conditioning. Nate had always hated this modern monstrosity, condemning it as a blight on an otherwise perfectly respectable urban landscape. But since Maggie started working here as a freelance art authenticator a few weeks ago, he’d visited it often enough to develop a true loathing based on its many quirks and flaws.

The next morning, Sophie invites him to have breakfast with her, a peace offering that he nearly feels churlish enough to refuse. But something about the way she asks through the door, tentative and uneasy, her feet making uncharacteristic shuffling noises, causes him to agree.

Nate watches as Sophie drops her book and covers the space between them in three long strides. She settles herself gently on the edge of the bed. The look on her face reminds him of the time he ran away from home when he was seven. When he returned hours later, sheepish and hungry, his mother had looked like she didn’t know whether to smother him with hugs or slap him silly.

Nate sits in the holding cell, hunched forward with his elbows on his knees and hands folded together. After months in the scratchy prison jumpsuit, it feels comforting to wear his own clothes, even if the suit doesn’t fit quite right anymore. He figures that he can count on one hand the number of times he’ll get to wear his suit: this prelim, the actual trial, the sentencing. Then, it’ll probably be fifteen to twenty years of prison clothes.

Disclaimer:  I own nothing here and am just doing this for fun and to ease my new-found Leverage addiction. Pre-series, no real spoilers.

Written for: [livejournal.com profile] lovesrogue36’s prompt at [livejournal.com profile] leveragekink : ‘Nate/Sophie, fugitives on the run.’ Beside the prompt, this story is inspired by the video conversation between Tara and Sophie in “The Runway Job” where Sophie tells Tara to ask Nate about something that happened on the Russian border.

A/N: My motto is ‘never let the facts get in the way of a good story.’ I did a bit of research, but could only track down replicas of the Kandinsky painting, Mit und Gegen. For the purpose of this fic, the original is 20”x24” oil on canvas.

I’ve also made up everything involving travel and the geography of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, so just go with it, please. :)

As for where this fits in the Leverage-verse, it pre-dates the series by maybe six years. (i.e. Nate’s still married and his kid is still healthy.)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When Nate heard that his client, the Volgograd Museum of Art, was going to host a Kandinsky retrospective, his stomach sank. No matter how much things had changed in Russia, assembling that much priceless artwork in one place was just asking for trouble. He convinced the museum to hire extra security and upgrade their electronic systems, but he still knew that at least one painting, maybe more, was going to take a walk.

A/N: Written for prompt 20 (a hot air balloon) @ [livejournal.com profile] story_lottery .

The expression “finding myself” makes Sophie cringe, but it’s convenient shorthand for what she’s trying to do. The problem is that she isn’t quite sure where to look. All her life, she’s heard that retracing one’s steps was the best way to locate a lost item, but Sophie finds the thought exhausting. She’s been too many places and has no desire to ever return to some of them.
