Oh, lovely! Yes, so often we (and the show, and Nate himself) focus on Sam's death that you forget there were actual real years of living as a family to precede it. And that Nate must have really struggled with parenting (thank you, show, for finally giving us Jimmy and Nate onscreen!), and that all informs how he interacts with the team. Especially Hardison.
I love that it's not just Jimmy's voice in his head making him consider pushing Sam in – that it's thoroughly shaped his approach, to the point that it's his own instinct to push him. Those things go way deep, man.
Hopefully that's not freaking you out with your own lil' bump! But no parent gets it completely right. It's more about how you deal with the screw ups (especially your own) than getting it perfect the first time around, anyway.
