Happy Yuletide, dear anonymous writer. I am not a big one for the holidays, but for many years now, Yuletide has been one of my favourite parts of the dark days of winter, and it's one of the few fannish things I really do anymore.

Optional details are optional... )

Happy Yuletide, dear anonymous writer. I am not a big one for the holidays, but for the last 11 years, Yuletide has been one of my favourite parts of the dark days of winter.

My hard-and-fast DNWs list is fairly short. I do not want incest, non-con, porn without plot, child death or grievous injury (unless it's canon and even then, no need to dwell on the details), animal cruelty or abuse, scat/watersports/extreme kink, or first-person narration. Yeah, I know that last one is maybe a little weird, but I find first-person difficult to warm up to and it takes me out of the story.

In general, I love fan fiction. I love the way it lets me spend time with beloved characters. I love the way it opens up new adventures and possibilities. I love the way it lets me rethink and reimagine known worlds.

A word about The Pandemic Times - I would be delighted to read a story set in our pandemic or any other pandemic. If writing such a story would be good for you, by all means, do it. But if you are burned out on pandemics, feel free to hand wave Covid. (Also, if setting in present day but ignoring the present situation, there's no need to jump through hoops to scene set unless you want to!)

I love, love, love so many tropes. (And I also love stories that subvert tropes.) In no particularly order, I absolutely love the following tropes:
Fake dating
Using dating/relationships as a cover for a mission/con/job/plan
Secret weddings/marriages
Elopement, and accidental marriages
Unexpected tenderness
Hurt/comfort
Cooking comfort foods
Grand romantic gestures
Repressed feelings
Found families
Slow burning love that develops slowly through mundane activities
Starting a new life
Ghost stories
Spooky settings
Haunted houses
Stupid dares
Camping
Accidental demon summoning
Disasters – natural or manmade
Post-apocalytpic fights to survive
Man vs wilderness
Angst
Unresolved sexual tension
Zombies
Roads not taken in canon
Wacky roadtrips

That's quite a grab bag to choose from, but I would like anything from it. Here are a few starting points for a gift in any fandom:
A natural or manmade disaster strikes and characters must work together to save themselves and others
AU - The Zombie Apocalypse strikes - what is life like and how do the characters manage?
Character backstories - I love a good backstory!
The road not taken...what happens when a character makes a different decision than in canon. How does the story (and more importantly, the character) change as a result of the decision?
First times - first kisses, first loves, first day of school/prison/the army/whatever
5+1 (As in Five times X happened and 1 time it didn't)  is a tried and true format - I'd eat any 5+1 with a spoon. (And it doesn't have to be 5 +1, it could be 3 or 7 or whatever works for you.)
Song fic - I don't even need to know the song. (But if you're a fan of The National, you literally cannot go wrong with any of their songs.)
Crossovers - I love crossovers like Whoa! They are seriously my favourite fandom genre. I would be delighted to see crossovers between any of my requests or with any of these fandoms: Friday Night Lights, Supernatural, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, The Good Place, The Big C, Stranger Things, Sons of Anarchy, or Leverage.

This letter is basically a gooey letter of all things I love, and it's only going to get worse as I get to my fandoms. I love each of these fandoms deeply and beyond all reason. And I think this love is even worse because I've not found any communities or places that love these shows the way I do.

Friday Night Lights - Whatever happened to Tim Riggins? Did he and Jason stay friends? I would love any kind of slice-of-life fic of them relating to each other. Reunion fic. Past adventure fic. Future adventure fic. Or slot them into any of my beloved tropes and I am sure it'll be delightful.

Last Tango in Halifax – This show is still my emotional home place. I return to it whenever I feel on the edge of depression because it makes me feel so many things. I ship Kate and Caroline like whoa and would love fix-it fic/AU where the senseless death does not happen. Basically, I love the people on this show and just want more of them interacting and being messy but loving and just trying to figure out life.

Bad Sisters - Recently finished this show and it's an absolute gem. I love the sisters and their relationship. Would love to see something from their past. How did Eva take over parenting her sisters? Have they ever had a holiday together? What happens after the last show in the series? Again, I am super easy and just want to see these awesome sisters being awesome together. For the record, Bibi is my favorite sister, but I love all of them. Feel free to give me a story that focuses on Bibi and less so on Eva and Becka.

And I think this love is even worse because I've not found any communities or places that love these shows the way I do.

Atypical - Casey and Izzy - I love the characters. I love their messy relationships and their imperfect but intense love for each other. I would appreciate a story that centers Casey and her feelings about everything, especially she and Izzie running into Evan for the first time since becoming a couple. And I know this is way into optional-details-are-optional territory, but it's my head canon that Coach Crowley and Professor Judd are a couple – so I'd love anything that involves them popping into the story.

Ted Lasso - As of writing this letter, I am only 1/2 way through the season. Will update when I finish. I love Roy (who is so clearly inspired by Roy Keane) and kind of ship him with Keeley. I also love the moments of Rebecca and Keeley and the sort of mentoring friendship they seem to be establishing. Would also be delighted if Ted and Coach Beard made an appearance (and Nate, Nate is always welcome) but I didn't request Ted because he's kind of cilantro - better as seasoning and a bit overwhelming sometimes. I realise I'm just gushing and don't have any real prompts, but I'd be happy seeing the characters in any kind of trope-y situation. Like maybe Roy and Keeley have to fake date for reasons and they start to develop actual feelings? Or maybe they run into each other years after Roy's career is over - what's that like. Rebecca backstory - does she see herself in Keeley - is that why she's taken to her?

Happy Valley – Catherine is the kick-ass awesome woman of my dreams. She doesn't always get it right, but she tries so hard. She is the epitome of "be brave and be kind". Her relationship with Clare is so real to me - any slice of life fic there would be much appreciated. And I'd love to see a story where Catherine mentors and mothers Ann - where's the line between trying to make up for Kirsten? I also love the relationship with Joyce - they are clearly old friends who adore each other - stories from back in the day wouldn't go amiss! Back story, front story, contemporary story - I am happy with whatever as long as there is more Catherine. Also, feel free to not include all requested characters if that works best for your story. (But please don't skip Catherine!)

I'll give you the fandom-specifics first, and then a whole laundry list of general loves that you can mix and match or use for inspiration. The universe of things I like is pretty wide.

The Mandalorian
Cara Dune & Baby Yoda
Cara Dune & The Mandalorian & Baby Yoda
Cara Dune & The Mandalorian
Cara Dune/The Mandalorian
I love Cara Dune – I love her toughness especially. How does being around Baby Yoda change her and how does she feel about those changes? I'd love any kind of silly caper involving Baby Yoda and/or The Mandalorian. Also, that revelation about where Cara Dune is from in the last episode – holy cow, that opens up so much potential for character growth and backstory. I'd love to see a conversation between Cara and Mando where they talk about the destruction – complete in Cara's case – of their childhood homes.

Atypical
Casey Gardner & Coach Crowley
Casey Gardner/Izzie & Evan Chapin
Coach Crowley/Professor Judd
Casey Gardner/Izzie
I love the characters. I love their messy relationships and their imperfect but intense love for each other. I would appreciate a story that centers Casey and her feelings about everything, especially she and Izzie running into Evan for the first time since becoming a couple.  Or, alternatively, it's my head canon that Coach Crowley and Professor Judd are a couple – so I'd like to see an evening in their life and maybe they discuss their interesting students.

Last Tango in Halifax
Kate McKenzie/Caroline McKenzie-Dawson
Last Tango in Halifax – This show is still my emotional home place. I return to it whenever I feel on the edge of depression because it makes me feel so many things. I ship Kate and Caroline like whoa and would love fix-it fic/AU where the senseless death does not happen. Basically, I love the people on this show and just want more of them interacting and being messy but loving and just trying to figure out life.

Star Wars OT
Leia Organa/Han Solo
These movies are my first fannish obsession, and Princess Leia was always one of my favorites. I love the way she and Han spark off each other, in both good and bad ways. Han has some preconceptions about princesses – I'd love to see Leia prove him wrong. And uh, not for nothing, but I bet Han and Leia are really good at fighting and then having angry make-up sex. Just saying.

Star Wars ST
Ben Solo | Kylo Ren & Leia Organa
Rey/Ben Solo | Kylo Ren
I would love to see anything with Ben and his mother – his mother trying to understand him, how he felt about being sent away vs how Leia felt about it, his mother actually had a connection with him the whole time he was Kylo and was trying to help him even when he was furthest away from her.
For Rey, I would like a fix-it fic or even better, Rey trying to start her new life on Tatoine with Force-Ghost-Ben “haunting” her the whole time.

Succession
Gerri Kellman/Roman Roy
I am so here for anything that continues the amazing adventures of Rockstar and Molewoman. I love their relationship so much. It's weird and a little wrong and sweet and tender but still prickly and somewhat maternal. It's unlike anything I've seen before and it makes a weird kind of sense. I am obsessed by this show because I do not understand why anyone stays in that messed up world, especially when all they need to do is cash out a fraction of their stock and walk away. No amount of wealth seems worth it to me for the stress and mental abuse they all have to put up with. I would love to see Gerri and Roman make the decision to walk away. Or maybe make plans to walk away and then have to struggle with following through.

Long time, no post, but that's how things go, I guess. I am really missing fandom communities of ten+ years ago. There just does not seem to be anything like it anymore. I guess I partially blame the collapse of LiveJournal and the rise of Tumblr but also blame streaming services and how there are just so many things to watch and fall in love with that I guess it's hard for something to gather a critical mass.

More ranting from an Old under the cut...if the cut even work....doesn't seem like it does sometimes ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ )

And I think this love is even worse because I've not found any communities or places that love these shows the way I do.

Ad Astra - I loved the aesthetic of this movie and especially loved Dr. Helen Lantos. I want aaaalllll of her backstory. I am especially curious about the decoration in her apartment - the weird Victorian era toys and bird cage, if I'm remembering correctly - seems an interesting choice for a woman who has such a tenuous connection with Earth at all let alone in Victorian times. I also ship her with Roy, but sometime in the future, not in the time frame of the movie.

Succession - I am so here for anything that continues the amazing adventures of Rockstar and Molewoman. I love their relationship so much. Or maybe make plans to walk away and then have to struggle with following through. I would also love all the Gerri backstory, b (Also, in my head canon, Gerri never slept with Logan because she was already married. She walked a super-fine line and earned some respect for her loyalty both to her husband and also to the company.) Also, I'm interested in Greg and Kendall's relationship...I'd like to think that they've secretly become friends and that's why Greg helps him. But primarily, I'd prefer a story that focuses on Gerri and Roman.

Last Tango in Halifax – This show is still my emotional home place. I return to it whenever I feel on the edge of depression because it makes me feel so many things. I ship Kate and Caroline like whoa and would love fix-it fic/AU where the senseless death does not happen.  Hello,

Thank you so much for volunteering to write a story for a stranger (I assure you, I am quite strange). I am delighted we share common fandom interests and I look forward to seeing what you come up with. This letter is packed to the gills with prompts, but feel free to ignore them if you want. Optional details are, after all, optional. But if prompts help you, you've come to the right place!

That's quite a grab bag to choose from, but I would like anything from it. Here are a few starting points for a gift:
So here are some general things I like:
A natural or manmade disaster strikes and characters must work together to save themselves and others
AU - The Zombie Apocalypse strikes - what is life like and how do the characters manage?
Character backstories - I love a good backstory!
The road not taken...what happens when a character makes a different decision than in canon. How does the story (and more importantly, the character) change as a result of the decision.

And I think this love is even worse because I've not found any communities or places that love these shows the way I do.

Titanic – Group: Rose and Molly.
We watched this movie again recently, and it just seemed to be crying out for fan fiction. :) I'm happy for something set on the ship or afterwards. I love the idea of Rose somehow running into Molly Brown and Molly advising her and maybe even looking after her somehow

Game of Thrones - Brienne of Tarth (GoT), Group: Arya Stark & Sansa Stark (GoT), Group: Daenerys Targaryen & Brienne of Tarth (GoT)
I am so very late to the Game of Thrones party. As of right now, I've seen the first three season and the Long Night episode in S8. I have a rough idea of what happens at the end of S8 and some fuzzy spoilers on S4-7. I don't know a lot of the lore and deep background, but I love all of these women and just want more of them. Drop in any of my favorite tropes and I'll be happy forever. (And you can mix and match the characters any way that suits your story, as long as at least one of the four are in the story.)

Harry Potter
1. Group: Hermione Granger & Luna Lovegood – For these two, I'd love to see something set in Hogwarts, kind of like a buddy roadtrip comedy. I imagine that Hermione would learn something from Luna, despite her reservations about some of the wacky things that Luna believes.
2. Group: Hermione Granger and Mrs. Granger – That scene of Hermione walking out of her home after Oblivating her parents always breaks my heart. I'd love anything about that – maybe what Hermione's last day with her mother was like. I also have this vision in my head of Hermione doing something as Minister for Magic in partnership with muggles and meeting her mother through that. Would her mother somehow still recognize her, given that love is a strong a form of magic?
3. Minerva McGonagall – Backstory, future story, anything set during the books. I just want to see Minerva being a little salty. :)

Happy Valley – Catherine, Ann, Joyce, Clare -  Catherine is the kick-ass awesome woman of my dreams. She doesn't always get it right, but she tries so hard. She is the epitome of "be brave and be kind". Her relationship with Clare is so real to me - any slice of life fic there would be much appreciated. (But please don't skip Catherine!)

Last Tango – Caroline, Kate, Gillian, Flora, Celia - This show is my emotional home place. I return to it whenever I feel on the edge of depression because it makes me feel so many things. I ship Kate and Caroline like whoa and would love fix-it fic/AU where the senseless death does not happen. Alternatively, I'd enjoy something in the canon where Gillian helps Caroline pick up the pieces. Or a sweet but messy slice of live fic about raising Flora. Basically, I love the people on this show and just want more of them interacting and being messy but loving and just trying to figure out life. Also, feel free to not include all requested characters if that works best for your story.

I love...
The National. Seriously. I've seen them 11 times in 3 different countries including traveling to see them play a 30-minute set with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. (And I have tickets to see them again in a fourth country in November.) I have pretty much imprinted on this band like a little duckling. So, embarrassingly perhaps, all of my requests are for The National.

I love everything about The National, but especially the words. The words are able to create entire worlds of flawed and interesting people, and I cannot wait to read something inspired by any of the songs.

See, I told you I was easy. Now, the prompts...

"Terrible Love" - The National (song) - Video * Lyrics
"And I can't fall asleep/without a little help/It takes awhile to settle down/My ship of hopes/until the past leaks out"
"It takes an ocean not to break"
"But I won't follow you/ into the rabbit hole/ I said I would/but then I saw/ the ship of woes/ they didn't want me to"
I love the wistfulness of this song, and the idea that even though love can excite you, it can also scare you. Does the narrator take the chance, or does he/she hold firm to the promise not to go into the rabbit hole?
(Also, a note that applies to all my song requests - I
am not fussed about the gender of the characters. A lot of these songs are about relationships - I do not mind whether the characters are men, women, non-binary - whatever works for the story is fine with me.)

"Slow Show" - The National (song) - Video * Lyrics
"You know I dreamed about you for 29 years before I saw you
You know I dreamed about you, I missed you for...for 29 years"
I love all of this song, but that coda catches me in the chest every damn time. It was one of the first lullabies that I sang to my son. The rest of the song is a perfectly described party scene of a socially awkward guy just trying to make a good impression when the stakes, to him, are obviously so high. I'd love to read a love story of any kind - romantic love, platonic love, or even a parent's love for a child.

"Bloodbuzz Ohio" - The National (song) -
Video * Lyrics
"I still owe money to the money to the money I owe
I never thought about love when I thought about home
The floors are falling out from everybody I know"
I don't know what a bloodbuzz is and I don't know if I'd want to be on one, but damn I get the idea of being drowning in debt. Tell me about this debt. Tell me about what the narrator is willing to do to get out from under it. And tell me why Ohio is so important to the narrator.

"Graceless" - The National (video) -
Video * Song
I almost feel like the guys did the video just to counter the jibes that their music is depressing. Tell me anything about the video. The planning. The making. The choosing of the wardrobe. Tell me what Mrs. Berninger thought about the antics in her backyard.

"Abel" - The National (song) -
Video * Lyrics
"Abel, come on, give me the keys, man
Everything has all gone down wrong
I see water on the bridge
Well, you better hold my hand through this"

"You turn me good and God-fearing
Well, tell me what am I supposed to do with that?
I'm missing something
Yeah, I'm missing something"

Obviously, I want to know what's gone down wrong. What is the narrator missing? What's the relationship with Abel? What's going to happen at the end of the night?

"I'll Still Destroy You" - The National (song) -
Song * Lyrics
"This one's like your mother's arms when she was young and sunburned in the '80s
It lasts forever
The more level they have me
The more I cannot stand me
I have helpless friendships
And bad taste in liquids
This one's like the wilderness without the world
I'm gonna miss those long nights with the windows open
I keep re-reading the same lines always up at 5am every morning
Like a baby"

Arms seem to show up rather often in The National songs - and I can think of at least one other reference to mother's arms. To me, this song has a lovely underground river of sweetness - I think the narrator's heart is in the right place, but their head is so messed up. And the thing about the window makes me think of slow-moving disasters, like climate change or some kind of apocalypse. (And if the world's gone mad, maybe a sane person would feel mad?) I don't have any true prompts for this song, I just love it and would love to know what speaks to you about it.

"This is the Last Time" - The National (song) -
Video * Lyrics
"Oh, don't tell anyone I'm here
I've got Tylenol and beer
I was thinking that you call
Somebody closer to you
Oh, but your love is such a swamp
You're the only thing I want
And I said I wouldn't cry about it,"

This song speaks to me of the end of a precious relationship. You don't want it to end, but there's just no way that you can make sense of things and make it work. What brings someone to this point? What happens next?

"You Had Your Soul with You" - The National (song) -
Video * Lyrics
"You felt like heaven stood up in you
You said love fills you out
It moves you from the skeleton and pulls you around
I got it worse than anyone else
And I just can't find a way to forgive myself
I had only one thing left and I couldn't see it yet
I have owed it to my heart, every word I've said
You have no idea how hard I died when you left
If I yield to my trances, will I get up close again?
I had only one thing to do and I couldn't do it yet
I had only one thing left and I couldn't see it yet
You had your soul with you, I was in no mood"

When the new album, single, film, and tour were announced a few weeks ago, it was like all my birthdays and Christmases had come at once. Then I started to listen to this song, with its fragmented beginning, and I felt nauseous. What if I didn't like it? And then the drums kicked in and then the words (the glorious words) in Matt's soothing voice and I felt like I was home again. (Yeah, that's the effect that this band has on me.)

What is this mysterious thing that had to be done? They couldn't they do it?

Hello and welcome. Yuletide is one of my favorite parts of the holiday season. I've been participating since 2009, and it's definitely my favorite part of fandom these days.

I love, love, love so many tropes. (And I also love stories that subvert tropes.) I love
Fake dating
Using dating/relationships as a cover for a mission/con/job/plan
Secret weddings/marriages
Elopement, and accidental marriages
Unexpected tenderness
Hurt/comfort
Cooking comfort foods
Grand romantic gestures
Repressed feelings
Found families
Slow burning love that develops slowly through mundane activities
Starting a new life
Ghost stories
Spooky settings
Haunted houses
Stupid dares
Camping
Accidental demon summoning
Disasters – natural or manmade
Post-apocalytpic fights to survive
Man vs wilderness
Angst
Unresolved sexual tension
Zombies
Roads not taken in canon
Wacky roadtrips

That's quite a grab bag to choose from, but I would like anything from it. Here are a few starting points for a gift:
So here are some general things I like, not all of which are suitable for drabbles:
A natural or manmade disaster strikes and characters must work together to save themselves and others
AU - The Zombie Apocalypse strikes - what is life like and how do the characters manage?
Character backstories - I love a good backstory!
The road not taken...what happens when a character makes a different decision than in canon. How does the story (and more importantly, the character) change as a result of the decision.

Atypical – This show is my new discovery of this year. I love the characters. I love their messy relationships and their imperfect but intense love for each other. I would appreciate a story that centers Casey and her feelings about everything. (When she first stuck up for Beth, I got the sense that they were maybe secretly friends and that Casey maybe was a little interested in her and was actually a little disappointed that Beth seemed to just be an excuse to introduce Casey to a potential boyfriend.) My sense is that Casey is pan or bi and is really into both Evan and Izzie and that it's confusing and exciting and a million other feelings that I would love to see hashed out, in great detail, in a story. I enjoy Sam and Zahid and would be delighted if they had a cameo in a story. Also, feel free to not include all requested characters if that works best for your story. *But please don't skip Casey!)

Last Tango in Halifax – This show is my emotional home place. Basically, I love the people on this show and just want more of them interacting and being messy but loving and just trying to figure out life. Also, feel free to not include all requested characters if that works best for your story.

Nailed It! - I love it so much. The tone of this show is just right. I love how the judges always try to find something nice to say. I also love Nicole and her chemistry with Jacques. This show is my fun happy place right now. (This show, to me, begs to be crossed with Leverage. Maybe Wes is Eliot's actual brother. Maybe Parker gets on the show for real. Maybe Eliot gets on the show as part of a job and has to fake being bad at baking. Soooooo many possibilities.) Also, feel free to not include all requested characters if that works best for your story. (But please don't skip Nicole!)

Hello, and thank you for volunteering to create a gift for the Crossovering exchange, which is quite possibly my most favourite exchange of all time. (But don't tell the other exchanges, I don't want them to feel bad!) Crossovers are definitely my most favourite thing about fandom and fan fiction - the possibilities of mixing up worlds and lives and seeing what happens.
Optional details are optional... )

But above all, have fun. If you find that the suggestions feel like a burden, then ignore them and write something that interests you. True passion shines through and makes a story special.

And I have to say - handwave all you need to get the universes crossed over. Don't feel like you have to write 1000 words of setup to get the characters in the right places. One line in a summary to set the scene is all I need!

I like...
angst, UST, longing looks, the 5+1 format, long-repressed feelings that explode one day, kid fic, roads not taken in canon, zombies, wacky road trips, old friends, handsome strangers, ghost stories, crazy decisions that are right even though they seem so very wrong, 2nd person narratives, porn that reveals more than just naked bodies, unreliable narrators, opening your presents on Christmas Day rather than Christmas Eve, and long deep slow kisses that last three days.

I do not want..
passivity, first-person narration, incest, non-con, non-canon slash, porn without plot, child death or grevious injury (unless it's canon and even then, no need to dwell on the details), and misusing the words less and fewer.

What I love about each of the items that appear in my requests:

Last Tango in Halifax -  - This show is my emotional happy place. Which is perhaps weird because I am so disappointed with the decisions made in Season 3 to kill Kate to bring the family back together. So ridiculous. So yeah, I ship Kate and Caroline like whoa. I also really appreciate the loving yet prickly and difficult relationship that Caroline has with her mother. And Caroline and Gillian are always pure comedy gold together.

Happy Valley - Catherine is the kick-ass awesome woman of my dreams. She doesn't always get it right, but she tries so hard. She is the epitome of "be brave and be kind". Her relationship with Clare is so real to me, as are her struggles to parent her grandson.

Kiri - You might see a theme here - I pretty much love Sarah Lancashire and think she's brilliant in everything she does. Kiri was such a heart-breaking story but it ends on a weird note of fragile hope for Miriam.

Billions - I am only current through Season 2, but goodness how I love the show. I love the moral ambiguity of it - how no one is the good guy and plenty of people are the bad guys. I am so interested in Taylor and understand they have a bigger role in S3, which I am very much looking forward to. (Apparently, my season pass on iTunes will have the episodes on Monday, but I'm not sure when I'll have time to watch.)

Friday Night Lights - Nine years ago, this show was my emotional happy place. The characters and their struggles are all so real to me. I loved Tim Riggins (always been a sucker for a 'bad' boy) and also Julie, who was kind and sweet but also trying to be tough and figure things out. I also loved the relationship between Tami and Eric - best depiction of marriage on television.

Sons of Anarchy - I love the first season of this show most of all, before it went off the rails and floundered in complicated and bloody plot devices. Jax, Chibs, Opie - I loved the relationships and how Jax was trying to change things.

The Good Place - Janet, Janet, Janet and more Janet. I also love the rest of the cast and the whole setup of the show. But Janet. She is amazing.

Leverage - I love the team dynamic and the witty banter. Eliot is my favorite but I really love them all.

Supernatural - I've only seen SPN up to the end of Season 5. I love the dynamic between Sam and Dean and their banter. I also love Castiel.

Rogue One - Quite simply, I think this is the best Star Wars movie in the franchise. It has everything - a sassy robot, a strong heroine, Darth Vader, a hilarious married couple (Baze and Chirrut, of course!), and so much adventure and such high stakes and oh I am getting woozy just thinking of it all.

Killing Eve - I loved the cat-and-mouse feel of this show, the witty dialogue, and the unexpected turns. Carolyn was an amazing character as well - so...odd.

Nailed It - Updating my request with this show because holy cow, I love it so much. The tone of this show is just right. I love how the judges always try to find something nice to say. I also love Nicole and her chemistry with Jacques. This show is my fun happy place right now.

As I'm reading over what I've written, I realize that it's the characters and their relationships that kindle my love for a show, book, or movie. (I suspect this interest is why I tend not to love movies, because the condensed time frame doesn't give me enough time to fall in love with the characters.)

General prompts that would apply to any combo:

A natural or manmade disaster strikes and characters must work together to save themselves and others

AU - The Zombie Apocalypse strikes - what is life like and how do the characters manage?

Wacky roadtrip, a la "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles"

Character backstories - I love a good backstory, especially when it has crossover implications

The road not taken...what happens when a character makes a different decision than in canon. How does the story (and more importantly, the character) change as a result of the decision.

Request specific prompts:

Last Tango in Halifax/Kiri/Happy Valley/Friday Night Lights
  • How about a backstory where Miriam (Kiri)  tries to get a client into Caroline's fancy school (Last Tango) on a scholarship.
  • What if one of Miriam's clients is the kid who hit Kate?
  • One of my greatest joys in life is reading fan fic that contains two characters that are played by the same actor. I especially love when everyone else remarks on the similarities but the characters themselves don't see it.
  • Catherine (Happy Valley) has to arrest a pupil at Caroline's new school and Caroline (Last Tango) protects the student the same way that she would've in the posh school.
  • Julie (Friday Night Lights) goes over to Yorkshire as a young reporter, meets Catherine, and wants to write a story about her. (This basic idea would work with any of the other fandoms in this request as well.)

Nailed It!/Supernatural
  • The set of the Nailed It! is haunted by a nasty ghost or one of the cast/crew (maybe Wes please let it be Wes) is infested by a demon and the one of the Winchester boys has to go on the show to solve the case.
Nailed It!/The Good Place
  • Is Nailed It! actually a Good Place for sub-par home bakers? Or are Nicole and Jacques actually in the Good Place? I would just love to see these two worlds get mixed up together.

Nailed It!/Killing Eve
  • Eve forgot that she even applied for that silly baking reality show. Then Villanelle finds out and follows her.
  • Or maybe it's Caroline who has a secret baking hobby and her son enters her in the show.

Billions/The Good Place/Killing Eve/Rogue One/Sons of Anarchy
  • The Good Place is a ready-made playground for any of the characters in the other shows in this request!
  • Jyn expects that death will be nothingness, but instead she ends up in an unrecognizable world, full of loud, earth bound machines (Sons), treacherous well-dressed killers (Killing Eve), and/or people who squint and shout at screens for reasons she can't understand (Billions).
  • Villanelle is sent to do a hit in Charming. Or in the world of Billions.

Leverage/Billions/Killing Eve
  • Seems like Axe is exactly the kind of guy that Nate and the Leverage team would definitely want to stop. Or at least steal from.
  • Villanelle is sent to stop the Leverage team. Or someone in the world of Billions.

 Hello!

Thank you so much for participating in this fun exchange. Or at least I think it will be fun? The challenging word limits might have me questioning my exchange choices, but I don't think so!

I do not want..
passivity, first-person narration, incest, non-con, non-canon slash, porn without plot, child death or grevious injury, dog death, and misusing the words less and fewer.

See, I told you I was mostly easy. I will love any story you write for me. I am open to sequences and also to double and triple drabbles. I am not entirely sure how to prompt for drabbles, because it seems like I could easily exceed a Drabble word count, just when describing a prompt.

So here are some general things I like, not all of which are suitable for drabbles:
A natural or manmade disaster strikes and characters must work together to save themselves and others
AU - The Zombie Apocalypse strikes - what is life like and how do the characters manage?
Wacky roadtrip, a la "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles"
Character backstories - I love a good backstory!
The road not taken...what happens when a character makes a different decision than in canon. How does the story (and more importantly, the character) change as a result of the decision.
I would be delighted to see crossovers between any of my requests or with any of these fandoms: Friday Night Lights, Supernatural, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, The Good Place, My So-Called Life, Homeland (although I'm only current to season 5), Stranger Things, Orange is the New Black, Sons of Anarchy, or Leverage.

And here is what I love about each of my fandoms:

Rogue One: Quite simply, I think this is the best Star Wars movie in the franchise. It has everything - a sassy robot, a strong heroine, Darth Vader, a hilarious married couple (Baze and Chirrut, of course!), and so much adventure and such high stakes and oh I am getting woozy just thinking of it all.

Star Wars Original Trilogy: Leia, Leia, Leia, Leia, Leia. I also love Han and Chewie.

Star Wars Sequel Trilogy: See Star Wars Original Trilogy.

Seriously though....These movies are my first fannish obsession, and Princess Leia was always one of my favorites. I'd love a character study. I'd love a glimpse inside her head after Alderan was destroyed. I'd love future fic of her as a new mom, trying to juggle a baby and her responsibilities as a leader. How does she parent without parents to guide her? She clearly has the Force, why doesn't she pursue it? It'd pretty much love anything Leia-centric.

Billions: I am only current through Season 2, but goodness how I love the show. I love the moral ambiguity of it - how no one is the good guy and plenty of people are the bad guys. I am so interested in Taylor and understand they have a bigger role in S3, which I am very much looking forward to.

Stranger Things - I totally ship Hopper and Joyce. I love the kids and the way they're kids, and especially the way Steve ended up as their babysitter/friend.  loved this show so much (total nostalgia addiction - it just felt like putting on my favorite sweater), I would be happy for any opportunity to spend more time in its world.

Hamlet - A play that both intrigues and infuriates me. Hamlet's inability to act vexes me in ways that I cannot really articulate.

Sons of Anarchy - I love the first season of this show most of all, before it went off the rails and floundered in complicated and bloody plot devices. Jax, Chibs, Opie - I loved the relationships and how Jax was trying to change things. (See Hamlet.)

Anyway, if you've read this far, good luck and don't fret - it's only 100 words!

Hello!

Thank you so much for participating in this fun exchange. It would seem that we have some overlap in fandom loves (or perhaps you're an intrepid soul who is stretching outside your normal fandoms). In any case, I hope that you're happy with your assignment and am providing some prompts and thoughts here to help. If you prefer to strike out on your own without a map, that's totally cool just please mind the do-not-wants and enjoy the journey. I am pretty easy because I love stories, especially ones that are written for me.
Optional details are optional... )
angst, UST, longing looks, long-repressed feelings that explode one day, kid fic, teamy goodness, well-done hurt/comfort, AUs, roads not taken in canon, zombies, wacky road trips, old friends, handsome strangers, ghost stories, crossovers, crazy decisions that are right even though they seem so very wrong, 2nd person narratives, porn that reveals more than just naked bodies, unreliable narrators, awesome ladies being awesome, found families, BFFs, opening your presents on Christmas Day rather than Christmas Eve, and long deep slow kisses that last three days.

I do not want..
passivity, first-person narration, incest, non-con, non-canon slash, porn without plot, child death or grevious injury, dog death, and misusing the words less and fewer.

See, I told you I was mostly easy. Now, the prompts. First, some general prompts that would apply to any of my fandoms:

A natural or manmade disaster strikes and characters must work together to save themselves and others
AU - The Zombie Apocalypse strikes - what is life like and how do the characters manage?
Wacky roadtrip, a la "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles"
Character backstories - I love a good backstory!
The road not taken...what happens when a character makes a different decision than in canon. How does the story (and more importantly, the character) change as a result of the decision.

And now the fandom-specific prompts:
The Americans (Paige, Elizabeth, Martha, Kimmy) - Please feel free to write any of these characters. I really want to know, more than anything, what happens to Paige next. How does she survive? What does she do? Does she ever see her brother or parents again? We know the world is going to change faster than they think, and the Iron Curtain won't be impenetrable forever, but that doesn't mean that Paige is going to want to see her parents. What does she think about what she has become? How does Elizabeth fit into Moscow? Does she ever run into Martha? Does the story of the spies who got away make the news? And if so, does Kimmy ever recognise that she was with a spy for all those years?

Last Tango in Halifax - This show is my emotional happy place. Which is perhaps weird because I am so disappointed with the decisions made in Season 3 to kill Kate to bring the family back together. So ridiculous. So yeah, I ship Kate and Caroline like whoa and would love fix-it fic/AU where the senseless death does not happen. Basically, I love the people on this show and just want more of them interacting and being messy but loving and just trying to figure out life.

Happy Valley -
Catherine is the kick-ass awesome woman of my dreams. What was it like when Becky died? When did Clare move in and how did that go? Back story, front story, contemporary story - I am happy with whatever as long as there is more Catherine.

Kiri - You might see a theme here - I pretty much love Sarah Lancashire and think she's brilliant in everything she does. Kiri was such a heart-breaking story but it ends on a weird note of fragile hope for Miriam, who is going to move her mother in with her. I'd love to see how well that goes. I'd also love to see more of Miriam with her past social work clients - she was so gentle and kind with the one whose name is escaping me.

Crossover - Last Tango in Halifax and Kiri - Miriam and Caroline - How about a backstory where Miriam tries to get a client into Caroline's fancy school on a scholarship. Or what if one of Miriam's clients is the kid who hit Kate? Or Miriam and Caroline end up volunteering at the same place and swapping tragic stories. Anything that has the two of them interacting would be fantastic.

Crossover - Last Tango in Halifax and Happy Valley - One of my greatest joys in life is reading fan fic that contains two characters that are played by the same actor. I especially love when everyone else remarks on the similarities but the characters themselves don't see it. I imagine these two characters traveling in the same circles and whether it's official police business or not, I'd like to see them get off on the wrong foot but come around to grudging respect for each other. (Perhaps Catherine has to arrest a pupil at Caroline's new school and Caroline protects the student the same way that she would've in the posh school.)

Crossover - Friday Night Lights and Happy Valley - I picture Julie going over to Yorkshire as a young reporter, meeting Catherine, and wanting to write a story about her. How does Catherine cut through Julie's naivety? Does Julie rush headlong into danger and need to be pulled back with a stern talk and a stiff drink? I don't know, I just think that Julie would really respect Catherine (and have fun with Ann) but she'd make Catherine feel a bit old and tired.

Crossover - Jyn Erso and Leia Organa - I love these two both so much - they're fierce, opinionated asskickers who can take care of themselves. I'd love to see Leia trying to recruit Jyn away from Sol. Or I'd love a post-Rogue-One situation where Jyn has somehow survived and meets up with Leia post-Death Star destruction.

Hello, sweet chocolate box exchange writer.

I am so happy that you're participating in this happy-making exercise. It's always so nice to have something to work on and look forward to in these sloppy, still-dark days of winter. The sad truth is that I'm super-easy and this exchange should be stress-free, so stay away from my do-not-wants and you should be grand.

I do not want..

first-person narration, incest, non-con, non-canon slash, child death or grievous injury, dog death, and misusing the words less and fewer.

Hello, pal.

I am not exaggerating when I tell you that Yuletide is my favourite time of year. And I am not one of those gung-ho holiday types. But Yuletide is my second-favourite thing about this season (second only to watching my kid enjoy Christmas). I've been participating for too many years to count, and I've loved every minute, even the stress-y ones.
Optional details are totally optional )

angst, UST, longing looks, long-repressed feelings that explode one day, kid fic, teamy goodness, well-done hurt/comfort, AUs, roads not taken in canon, zombies, wacky road trips, old friends, handsome strangers, ghost stories, crossovers, crazy decisions that are right even though they seem so very wrong, 2nd person narratives, porn that reveals more than just naked bodies, unreliable narrators, awesome ladies being awesome, found families, BFFs, opening your presents on Christmas Day rather than Christmas Eve, and long deep slow kisses that last three days.

  • A natural or manmade disaster strikes and characters must work together to save themselves and others
  • AU - The Zombie Apocalypse strikes - what is life like and how do the characters manage?
  • Wacky roadtrip, a la "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles"
  • Character backstories - I love a good backstory!
  • The road not taken...what happens when a character makes a different decision than in canon. How does the story (and more importantly, the character) change as a result of the decision.
  • First times - first kisses, first loves, first day of school/prison/the army/whatever
  • 5+1 (As in Five times X happened and 1 time it didn't)  is a tried and true format - I'd eat any 5+1 with a spoon. (And it doesn't have to be 5 +1, it could be 3 or 7 or whatever works for you.)
  • Song fic - I don't even need to know the song. (But if you're a fan of The National, you literally cannot go wrong with any of their songs.)
  • Crossovers - I love crossovers like Whoa! They are seriously my favourite fandom genre.

And now the fandom-specific prompts:

The Big C  - Any character -  I love these people, and I just want more stories about them. I love how awkward and sarcastic Adam is. I love the way Cathy and Sean are such siblings. I love how Andrea is so comfortable in her own skin. I'd love a cross-over with S1 FNL in which the Jamisons move to Dillon (maybe for another clinical trial), and Eric recruits Adam for the football team, maybe as a kicker. Alternatively, a little darker AU in which both of Adam's parents die and Sean becomes his guardian and they go hobo-style on the road, ending up in Dillon. Or, for a Sons of Anarchy cross-over, I can totally see S1 Cathy going to California for some 'live your life' moment and running into S1 Jax.

Bill Hodges Trilogy - I am so fascinated by the relationship that Bill and Holly have. I'd love to see them having fun, taking on a case, whatever. How does Bill prepare Holly for the events at the end of End of Watch? How does Jerome help Holly from becoming overwhelmed, or maybe Holly just needs help feeling her feelings. Or, you know, stay away from the sad stuff and go lighter. Maybe Holly has a movie night where she tries to get Bill into the 21st century. (No need to include all three characters if it doesn't suit your story.)

Fargo - I just want to see Winnie, Gloria, and Molly solving crimes and being awesome together. I don't care how it happens. And I will love you forever if you manage to get Grace from Saving Grace involved. Alternatively, I'd love a back story for any of the characters. Or a crazy BFF adventure with Winnie and Gloria. Or the story of how Gloria helps Winnie after her husband finally knocks her up. Or maybe Winnie and Molly meet in a toddler playgroup or something and suspect one of the other mothers of something and then hijinks ensue. Once agin, no need to include all 4 characters if it doesn't suit you.

Saving Grace -  I always shipped Grace and Ham, particularly self-destructive!Grace and emo-caring-but-still-super-sexy-Ham. (And how about when the tables were reversed when Ham went off the rails?) I suppose my number 1 wish for this fandom would be an AU where things end differently. Back stories are awesome. Earl goes t-shirt shopping is an interesting premise. Would love a glimpse into the life of Rhetta and Grace when they were teenagers. I realize my other shows have more thoughts but don't think that means I love Grace any less. Would also enjoy anything that resembled the teamy goodness of casefic and bonus points if it involved pranks. :)

Happy Valley - Holy cow. I only stumbled across this program recently on Netflix, and I was a little reluctant to watch it but I remembered hearing good things about it. I *loved* it so much. Catherine is the kick-ass awesome woman of my dreams. She doesn't always get it right, but she tries so hard. She is the epitome of "be brave and be kind". I've only watched 3.25 episodes, but I'm in love. In fact, I've edited my sign-up to add it. To be on the safe side, let's say that I only get through S1. (uh yeah, I binged two seasons over the course of a weekend.) Her relationship with Clare is so real to me - any slice of life fic there would be much appreciated. And I'd love to see a story where Catherine mentors and mothers Ann - where's the line between trying to make up for Kirsten? I also love the relationship with Joyce - they are clearly old friends who adore each other - stories from back in the day wouldn't go amiss! Or I'd like a crossover that sends Catherine to the US to get training, where she meets Winnie Lopez and Gloria Burgle from Fargo and they start to investigate something suspicious at the hotel. Or something. Back story, front story, contemporary story - I am happy with whatever as long as there is more Catherine. (And, as with other requests, no need to include all selected characters.) OMG. I keep coming back here and adding prompts because I need more Catherine in my life. I'd love a story where she has more interactions with Frances and finally gets through to her.

Rey - I'd love Rey's backstory or a snapshot from it. I'd also love an alternate universe story where Han Solo, Chewbacca, and Rey have adventures.

Jyn - Holy cow, do I wish we'd seen more Jyn and Jyn background in Rogue One. I want to hear about her training and travels with Saw. I want to know the story of being alone in that bunker at 16.

Leia and Rey - Something set after The Force Awakens would make me so happy. Does Leia sense Rey's force sensitivity? Does Leia encourage her to develop it? Does Leia regret not developing her own powers?

Riverdale
This show is my guilty pleasure. I love its look and feel. I love the OTT-ness of the Blossom family. I just really enjoy the heck out of it.

Group: Betty Cooper & Veronica Lodge - What I'd love most of all here is either a wacky roadtrip, bizarre AU situation or a character backstory. Also, that kiss in the cheerleading tryouts seemed to throw Betty for a big loop. Human sexuality is a spectrum - I'd love to see these characters finding their places on that spectrum.
Group: Betty Cooper & Cheryl Blossom & Veronica Lodge - What happens if disaster strikes the three of them, and they must work together to survive. Maybe take the wacky road trip or bizarre AU sitch, and go way darker and more perilous. I'd like to see what Cheryl is like when she's not living in the shadow of her brother, her parents, and all the wealth and expectations.

Group: Betty Cooper & Polly Cooper - I'd like background/character study or future fic for these two.

Stranger Things
I have so much love for this show and am so looking forward to season 2. I am of exactly the right age to feel incredibly nostalgic for the time period.

Group: Nancy Wheeler and Barb Holland
- Tell me how they became friends. They seem to be on the verge of moving in different circles- how/when did that happen? How do they feel about it?
Fix It fic and/or future fixed fic would be greatly appreciated and happily received.

Joyce Byers - What is Joyce like when she's not so stressed? Does she suspect that anything is wrong with Will? Has the Upside-Down changed her at all? I'd love to see something with Joyce being mother-y and protective of her boys. It's so clear how much she loves them.

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend
Please mix and match characters and prompts as you see fit for this request. This show screams out for some kind of big wacky bizarre thing. Zombies. A blizzard in SoCal. A mad dash to a rural courthouse to file paperwork. Something crazy and silly.

Group: Rebecca Bunch & Naomi  Bunch - I feel like we see Naomi through Rebecca's eyes and that she's not the most reliable of narrators. I'd like to see through Naomi's eyes.

Paula Proctor - I like that Paula is starting to stand up for herself and follow her dreams. Tell me about what happens for her after she gets that law degree.

Heather - Love her sarcastic style and dry wit. Tell me about what Heather cares about. Because she must care about at least one thing unreservedly and un-ironically. (I'd love to think that she writes Yuri on Ice fanfic or something.)

Rebecca Bunch - She's such a disaster at everything but work. How does she always manage to screw up her personal life?

Dear Sweet Yuletide Writer,

Thank you so much for participating in my favorite holiday tradition. Participating in Yuletide is my second most favorite thing about the holiday season, so thank you for taking part.  Also, please allow me to compliment you for A.) your exellent taste in fandoms B.) your willingness to write outside your comfort zone C.) both. We at least have some matching interests in TV or books, so that practically makes us besties, right?

Hello, and thank you for volunteering to create a gift for the Crossovering exchange. I'm delighted that we share similar fandoms and interests and hope that you have fun creating a gift for me.
Don't tell anyone, but the sad truth is that I am super-easy. :) I especially love love love love LOVE crossovers, so really, you can't go wrong here. Write a story that you enjoy writing and I'm sure I'll love it and enjoy reading it. In an effort to help, I'll tell you my general likes/dislikes and also give a few prompts for the requested fandom combos.

I do not want..
passivity, first-person narration, incest, non-con, non-canon slash, porn without plot, child death or grevious injury, and misusing the words less and fewer.

What I love about each of the items that appear in my requests:

Leverage - I love the team dynamic and the witty banter. Eliot is my favorite but I really love them all.

Supernatural - I've only seen SPN up to the end of Season 5. I love the dynamic between Sam and Dean and their banter. I also love Castiel.

Harry Potter - I think the Goblet of Fire is my favorite of the books. I love the richness of Rowling's wizard world. I like all the sympathetic characters.

Veronica Mars - Haven't watched this in ages, but I loved the moodiness and sense of place of Neptune. I liked Veronica's scrappiness and shipped her like-whoa with Logan. I also loved her friendships with Wallace and Mack.

The Martian - Mark Watney is such an inspiring smart-ass.  I love his sense of humor and his calm, rational mindset.

Jessica Jones - I love the moodiness and sense of place in this series. I also love Jessica's smart mouth and her relationship with Tricia. Kilgrave was an awesome baddy.

Orange is the New Black: My goodness, how I love the awesome characters in this show. My favorite characters are Miss Rosa, Poussey, Taystee, Red, Nicky, Daya, Gloria, and Stella.

Parks and Recreation: Leslie - you have to love her energy and enthusiasm. And of course, I am wild about her sweet friendship with Ann.

Star Wars: The Original Trilogy movies are my first fannish obsession, and Princess Leia was always one of my favorites. I loved The Force Awakens too, which was pretty easy to do since it was practically a remake and love note to the original trilogy. Favorite characters are Leia, Han, Rey, Finn, BB8, R2D2, and Chewbacca.

  • A natural or manmade disaster strikes and characters must work together to save themselves and others

  • AU - The Zombie Apocalypse strikes - what is life like and how do the characters manage?

  • Wacky roadtrip, a la "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles"

  • Character backstories - I love a good backstory, especially when it has crossover implications

  • The road not taken...what happens when a character makes a different decision than in canon. How does the story (and more importantly, the character) change as a result of the decision.

Request-specific prompts:

Star Wars - All Media Types, The Martian - All Media Types, Harry Potter - J. K. Rowling

  • What if the Millenium Falcon blasted into hyperdrive, but ended up on Mars?

  • What if a bad batch of flue powder sent some wizards into either the Star Wars universe or to Mars?

Star Wars - All Media Types, Leverage, Supernatural

  • Leverage and Supernatural were made to crossover. :)

  • The Supernatural guys are tricked into a portal, that takes them to the Star Wars universe. They enlist the services of a certain shady smuggler to get back to their Earth. (Zomg, the idea of Dean and Han together is comedy gold.)

  • Handwave to get the Leverage crew into the Star Wars universe, then tell me about how the Leverage team stole the Empire for their client Leia.

Jessica Jones (TV), Leverage, Veronica Mars - All Media Types

  • Jessica is on the run in California, and bumps into Veronica Mars. What happens next?

  • The new Nate-less Leverage team recruits a private detective to help them with their cases.

  • Season 1 Veronica Mars enlists the Leverage team to help her steal back her town.

Leverage, Orange is the New Black, Parks and Recreation

  • Leslie and Ann start a prison education program.

  • The Leverage team has a stopover in Pawnee when they unexpectedly find a case.

  • The Leverage team has a new client inside Litchfield correctional and they need to send one of their own in to keep an eye on things.

I hope these idea help spark something for you. Good luck!
