I don't mean to be antisocial, but...

So, LJ has apparently added some new functionality that will let you cross-post comments to Twitter and Facebook. I don't really understand the mechanics of it all, but there seems to be some messed up workflow in which I can f-lock a post but a commenter can still cross-post comments on the post to their Twitter and FB. This post explains all this a lot better than I ever could.

There doesn't, as of now, appear to be any way to opt out of this entirely. Which, for reasons outlined in the above link, is massively annoying. My FB is a mix of personal friends and work colleagues, all of whom know nothing about my fan fiction hobby. And frankly, for a plethora of reasons, I prefer to keep it that way.

So I ask that you please not cross-post comments here to Twitter or FB. I also ask that if you're replying to a comment I left on your LJ, please don't cross-post the reply. And if you happen to love this new functionality and are opting in to automatic cross-posting of things on your LJ, please let me know and I'll send you PMs instead of comments.

I know this probably sounds extremely antisocial or paranoid (and honestly, I'm not even sure how FB would know that this account is associated with my FB account, since I use different email addresses), but I really do like to keep this part of my life compartmentalized.

Thanks in advance for your co-operation on this.

This. Would you mind if I just copied this post verbatim to my journal?

Go right ahead. (And please let me know if you find any spelling or grammatical errors. :))

and for the record - this is my third time trying to post a reply, so hopefully I haven't messed it up this time. :)

Right there with you--we should have the option to have our own LJs not linked to that feature in any way, if we choose. My cousins and old co-workers on FB don't need to know about my porny fanfic habit.

Supposedly there is a script that keeps the "Repost" checkboxes from showing up, but I haven't figured that one out yet. I'll let you know if I do.

Yeah, now that it's known how to get those checkboxes off the comment box, I'll have to get off my lazy ass and do it.

I really don't understand how LJ got this one so very wrong. I don't think I've seen anyone who thinks this is an awesome idea.

Ugh. This really should have been an opt out feature. :/

Absolutely. It's so frustrating when new features are foisted on you that are so not what you want, esp when you're basically trapped into them, like it or not.

No, you're not alone. I feel the same way, for much the same reasons. I really didn't want to post about this because I think it should go without saying, but I did anyway, just in case.

Appropriate icon is Appropriate. And awesome. :)

I kind of felt the same way, but then the whole combination of those two worlds freaks me out seriously enough that I felt that I should say something.

I am totally with you on this one. The idea of any of my LJ going anywhere near my Facebook frankly terrifies me! ♥

Me too! I use LJ because of the privacy and anonymity features. I use FB for exactly the opposite reasons. Why would I EVER want to mix the two?
